Vegeta is Daffy Duck?

Since the 1960s, people have familiarized themselves with possibly the most famous cartoon rivalry in history: the rivalry between Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Although you may not realize it, their friendly feuds have become the basis of those in some of our favorite cartoons and anime, even that of everyone’s favorite saiyans, Goku and Vegeta. As crazy as that may sound, I will attempt to explain my theory.

Everyone just loves Bugs Bunny and as we all know, Daffy always has been and always will be envious of his popularity. Sound familiar? No matter how much a Vegeta fan will tell himself otherwise, Vegeta always has been and always will be envious of Goku‘s power. He, like Daffy Duck, covers this up with an arrogant, cocky attitude. Others, such as Elmer Fudd and Piccolo have given up trying to compete. We see in the Looney Tunes movies how Elmer Fudd has faded to the background and become less important, just as Piccolo’s rivalry with Goku just sort of “faded away” and he became a lesser character.

In the minds of Vegeta and Daffy Duck, they are better than Bugs and Goku. Neither wants to admit that their rivals are better. Vegeta refused to accept the fact that Goku was stronger until the very last saga of DragonballZ. Daffy Duck, to this day, refuses to accept that Bugs is more popular. Daffy Duck and Vegeta are, to put it bluntly, second-rate to Bugs Bunny and Goku. Keep in mind that I am referring to their respective shows.

Now let’s take a look at reality: outside of the Looney Tunes and DBZ universes. Although one would assume that Bugs and Goku had the larger fan base, it is not true. Vegeta and Daffy are just as popular. Why? Just think of their determination and perseverance. No matter how clear it becomes, neither will accept the fact that they are not as good as the stars of their corresponding shows. A large group of fans admires their personalities, and why wouldn’t they? Vegeta and Daffy are considered “cool” because people tend to cheer for the underdog. In our minds, there is always the little hope that someday, Vegeta and Daffy will surpass Bugs and Goku.

I hope this gave some insight to the rift between Vegeta and Goku fans. Using Looney Tunes, it is easier to understand the relationship between the two saiyans because Bugs and Daffy are just a simpler version of Goku and Vegeta. There are fans who admire both Looney Tunes characters, just as there are fans of both Goku and Vegeta. Have you honestly seen any arguments between Bugs and Daffy fans? Even the hardcore fans can respect each other. There does not always have to be two extremes, there is always going to be a middle point.
